The 4 preliminary tasks that we performed aided our understanding of music videos, and improved our skills in creating music videos. For the first task we used final cut express to edit some clips of animal dancers to the beat of a song (You Don’t Know). We then experimented with several effects to exhibit our skill. Below is an example of a visual effect we added to one of the clips. We learned skills such as editing to the beat and how to add simple effects to footage.
The second task involved performance and editing. We first created a video, filming many scenes lip syncing, and then pieced them together in final cut express. We developed skills in performance, learning to lip-sync and how to edit it in time, and we also developed our camera skills, using a variety of shots. Below is an example of a lip -syncing clip from the final video.
After completing this task, we added more experimental effects to our videos, and indeed learned more advanced methods, developing advanced skills in video editing. Below is a mirror effect we used to replicate the same image on both halves of the screen, and below that is an effect, which allowed us to put 4 shots on one screen.
The final editing task we completed was a mash-up of a Radiohead video. We used footage from the ‘Lotus Flower’ video and put the audio for 50 Cent’s ‘In Da Club’ and edited to the beat. During this task we developed our editing skills even more and learned the most advanced effects on final cut. This is exhibited in the image below.
I think our lip-syncing task was our most impressive work as we have had no past experience making music videos but we managed to lip-sync almost perfectly and used a huge variety of shots. I was especially happy with the performance as we did humorous shots as well as more regular ones.
Shreyaa’s video had a good shot when the camera revolved around her.
Yasmin and Khushel’s video was impressive due to the performance, as they were confident in front of the camera.
